Diesel Day 11th April – Visitor’s Viewpoint

Reluctantly having had to decide to discontinue the Diesel Galas, the railway looked at ways to satisfy the thirst of those whose interest is not just for steam power. Therefore new for 2015 the Railway has added a number of ‘Diesel Days’, not to replace steam traction, but to provide an additional train when, normally, only one train set would be in operation. The first of these days was on the 11th April when Class 37 Diesel Electric locomotive 37 075 provided the power at the sharp end.

Robert Batty wrote in to the website with his take on the day. Continue reading

KWVR introduces new Saturday Diesel Locomotive Service

Following the decision not to hold a Diesel Gala weekend during 2015, the Railway has been looking at ways to operate our diesel locomotives on duties that may prove attractive to visitors. We already use the diesel locomotives for morning duties on bank holiday weekends, some special events, and on selected Summer Saturdays, but we recognised these short early morning duties weren’t ideal for enthusiasts to attend and enjoy riding behind their favourite locomotives.

We are now pleased to confirm that a diesel locomotive hauled train will operate ALL DAY on the following Saturdays: 11th April, 9th May, 13th June, 11th July and 8th August which will operate in addition to the steam train service. Starting at 09.00 from Oxenhope, the diesel loco hauled train will replace the diesel railcar service and operate 6 round trips of the line, finishing back at Oxenhope at 17.25. A real-ale buffet car will also be provided on these trains*. In addition, normal fares will be charged. An all-day Rover ticket costing only £16 is excellent value for a full day behind your favourite locomotive.

Update – 15th march 2015

In addition it has now been announced that on Sunday 12th April D0226 will haul the 1315, 1445 and 1615 from Oxenhope and 1400, 1530 and 1700 from Keighley. On Sunday 10th May D0226 will haul the 0900, 1015 and 1145 from Oxenhope and 0940, 1100 and 1230 from Keighley.
