Steaming Around Yorkshire Supports the ‘Worth Saving’ Appeal

This week we come to the end of our video journey and not only thank SAY for making their magnificent gesture but also you, the buying public, for giving their gesture your full support and raising much needed funds for out ‘Worth Saving’ Appeal.

The Steaming Around Yorkshire (SAY) team are supporting our ‘Worth Saving’ Appeal, helping our target of raising a minimum of £200,000 to ensure steam hauled passenger trains remain in the Worth Valley.

The SAY team came up with an offer that not only staves off the continued television boredom but brings you right to the heart of KWVR action, even though there are no passenger services in the Valley for the foreseeable future. With everyone pulling together, what seemed an ambitious target when launched, the ‘Worth Saving’ Appeal minimum target has been reached with a shade over £200,000 donated or raised through initiatives like this. SAY have been donating ALL PROFITS from the sale of their KWVR DVDs, bought through their online KWVR Shop and these have been going straight into the ‘WORTH SAVING’ APPEAL.

The KWVR has been saved – FOR NOW! But major challenges lie ahead, so the ‘Worth Saving Appeal remains open and we have more videos on offer this week from SAY.

On offer this week : Winter Steam Galas from 2012 and 2013, 2013 Autumn Steam Gala and year review from 2016.

This weeks ‘Worth Saving’ Appeal DVDs : 28th June – 4th July

With the Railway slowly starting to come back to life  and most of our volunteers and staff not allowed on KWVR property, SAY will administer the orders and post them out to you. On their website they also have videos of other preserved railways, BUT only the profits of KWVR videos bought from KWVR Shop are included in this Appeal promotion.

‘Worth Saving’ Appeal – Friday Night is Quiz Night on the KWVR

We are delighted to say that in the last week the magical £200,000 target of the ‘Worth Saving’ Appeal was reached and passed by a small amount.

For ONLY £3.00 join us for another round of General Knowledge, Sport, Music and Film questions this Friday, 26th June for what will be our last virtual quiz of this appeal campaign. So far the quiz has raised over £1,500 but the more that join in the quicker we reach £2,000.

Let’s get playing and helping the KWVR ‘Worth Saving’ Appeal

FOR NOW the Railway has been saved and steam trains have been kept alive in the Worth Valley, but massive challenges lie ahead that will need your support even more.

We know that these are troubled times and it is hard for everyone but without your donations the KWVR will not be able to operate steam trains in the Worth Valley, so, if you can, please donate and help us keep the wheels turning and bringing delight to all our passengers, young and not so young.

  • Don’t be afraid, it’s general knowledge not railway specific  and you will not be asked questions like, “Five of our locomotives were condemned by British Railways and almost spent their final days being cut up in a scrapyard in South Wales, until saved for the KWVR. The town where the scrapyard was situated, was in a town immortalised in the sitcom, Gavin & Stacey. What is the name of that South Wales seaside town?” (Answer: Barry)
  • It is ONLY £3 to join the quiz and there are cash prizes to the person in 1st, 2nd and 3rd places. “How much can I win?” The size of the ‘prize pot’ depends on the number of players, the more that play, the bigger the prizes.
  • If there’s a tie, the person who answered the questions the quickest will take top spot – simple?
  • The quiz will have three general knowledge rounds and three subject specific
  • You will need to register and buy your place in the quiz ahead of the 9.00 quiz time, then when the clock chimes NINE , you’re ready to go. To register to take part, just click on the link above.
Tip: When buying your place, use ‘Proceed to checkout’.
  • Having purchased a place in the quiz, when it is time to play, go to ‘Player Login’ and your link to play is in the ‘Pending Quiz Events’

We are grateful for all the support we are receiving, but these remain difficult times, we are still looking at how we can stay in touch, raise much needed funds for the Railway and have a good time.

We know that these are troubled times and it is hard for everyone but without your donations the KWVR will not be able to operate steam trains in the Worth Valley, so, if you can, please donate and help us keep the wheels turning and bringing delight to all our passengers, young and not so young.

Steaming Around Yorkshire Supports the ‘Worth Saving’ Appeal

With the Railway closed, no steam action available and the Railway appealing for donations in a financially harsh and challenging environment, the SAY film production guys looked for a way they can help the KWVR survive in these difficult times.

With so many of us sat at home with only endless repeats to watch on our televisions, the SAY team came up with an offer that not only staves off the television boredom but brings you right to the heart of KWVR action at the same time contributing, in no small way, towards achieving our £200,000 ‘Worth Saving’ Appeal target. ALL PROFITS from the sale of their KWVR DVDs, bought through their online KWVR Shop, will go straight to the ‘WORTH SAVING’ APPEAL.

Every week we will feature up to 5 DVDs that, over the next 9 weeks, chart the best of action on the Worth Valley branchline, including the 50th Anniversary week gala and the visit of the ‘Flying Scotsman’ that brought thousands to the railway to see this iconic engine in action.

With the Railway closed and all our volunteers and staff not allowed on KWVR property, SAY will administer the orders and post them out to you. On their website they also have videos of other preserved railways, BUT only the profits of KWVR videos bought from KWVR Shop are included in this Appeal promotion.

‘Worth Saving’ Appeal – Quiz Night Update

Worth Saving Appeal – Quiz Night Update

To all our supporters,

At a time when we are looking for support right across the KWVR community to help the Railway through these difficult times, we’ve hit a problem. Or more, accurately, the organisers of the quiz have a problem. Last week a number of you advised of problems you were experiencing, amongst them the winner not receiving her winnings.

Having reported the problems to Virtual Quiz Events, providers of the quiz platform, they have had to undertake emergency action – effectively self isolating themselves from the quiz participants whilst they resolve their problems. Thankfully they have not been infected by a virus.

So, it is with great regret that tonight’s quiz will not go ahead. If you have already registered to play tonight, your £3 fee will automatically be carried over to next Friday’s quiz.

Thank you for your patience and understanding

‘Worth Saving’ Appeal – Friday Night is Quiz Night on the KWVR

Our first quiz night was a great success and we are grateful for all the support we are receiving, but these remain difficult times, we are still looking at how we can stay in touch, raise much needed funds for the Railway and have a good time.

So this Friday, 10th April we will be holding our second quiz night and every Friday after that. Don’t be afraid, it’s general knowledge not railway specific  and you will not be asked questions like, “Where did locomotive 5820 come from?” (Poland, if you ever have that question in a quiz.)

It’s £3 to join the quiz and there are cash prizes to the person in 1st, 2nd and 3rd places. “How much can I win?” The size of the ‘prize pot’ depends on the number of players, the more that play, the bigger the prizes.

If there’s a tie, the person who answered the questions the quickest will take top spot – simple?

The quiz will have a number of general knowledge rounds and a couple of subject specific (not railways – remember 5820 came from Poland.)

You will need to register ahead of the 9.00 quiz time, then when the clock chimes NINE, you’re ready to go. To register to take part, just click on the link below.

Please forward this email to friends and family in other households.

Those of us who joined the quiz last Friday had 30 minutes of good fun and raised money for a good cause. Thank you… (Just for the record, I came 25th … school report “Must do better!”)
