GNR coach no. 2856 had a rare appearance outside the VCT museum during filming last week. This latest filming assignment was the 8th time that this venerable coach, built in the 19th century, has taken pride of place in front of the camera.
Vintage Carriages Trust have announced that their historic Haydock 0-6-0WT “Bellerophon” is to be an exhibit at the 2014 Warley Model Railway Show at the NEC on 22nd and 23rd November. The locomotive will be exhibited along with the Foxfield Railway’s North Staffordshire Railway coaches Nos 127 & 61 to form an effective “early railway passenger train” for visitors to view and enjoy. In 2013 the rolling chassis of The LMS-Pratriot Project new build LMS ‘Patriot’ Class 4-6-0 45551 ‘The Unknown Warrior’ was on display at this annual national gathering of railway modellers.
Most weekends diesel railbus M79964 can be seen providing the morning services between Oxenhope and Keighley. Indeed it has become as much a part of the Worth Valley scene as its more illustrious steam stablemates. This image from the 1st February 2014 shows this DRB fulfilling the role it was designed for in the 1950’s, providing a public service on a rural branchline, but now almost 60 years after construction.
Over 25 years ago M79964 worked turn and turn about with fellow class member E79962 until the latter succumbed to the ravages of time and was laid aside until time and funds could be allocated to return it to work. E79962’s time has now come, following transfer of ownership from the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway to the Vintage Carriages Trust at Ingrow.
Although rarely found steaming up the valley, Bellerophon is still very much a Worth Valley locomotive. Owned by the Vintage Carriages Trust (VCT) since 1981, this venerable engine, built in 1874, is currently a working engine on the Foxfield Railway in Staffordshire. Restoration was extensive as the locomotive, as retired from NCB service, was in a thoroughly worn out condition. The engine returned to steam for the first time since 1964 in 1985 and has achieved something of a celebrity status.
