Locomotive Roster for Weekend 25th & 26th March 2017

USATC S160 returned to action last weekend and will continue this weekend at the head of the Saturday and Sunday steam service.

However it is Mother’s Day this Sunday so it is a steam only Sunday with MR 4F 0-6-0 43924 on the second steam working that will including our 2 Pullman coaches serving Afternoon Tea to the mother’s who have been fortunate enough for their “little ones” to have reserved their places on their special day. The photograph above shows the same locomotive on the Mother’s Day train in brilliant blue skies in 2016, fingers crossed that the same weather is enjoyed this year.

The Saturday diesel service will be in the hands of railbus M79964.

Whilst every effort will made to ensure that the advised motive power is available, the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway reserve the right to change this when operational circumstances so dictate.

Locomotive Roster for Weekend 18th & 19th March 2017

BR B1 4-6-0 61264 is leaving the Railway this week to return ‘Home’ and so it is back to the home fleet to provide motive power at the weekend. Having seen little use since the Santa Steam Specials, USATC S160 2-8-0 re-enters the fray this weekend at the head of the Saturday and Sunday steam service.

The diesel railbus M79964 provides the diesel service and is a good way to see the branch, not seen from our locomotive hauled stock.

Whilst every effort will made to ensure that the advised motive power is available, the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway reserve the right to change this when operational circumstances so dictate.

Locomotive Roster for Weekend 11th & 12th March 2017

Those that attended the Gala last weekend witnessed an exceptional 3 days of steam action with the final count of 3 visiting locomotives in the shape of B1 4-6-0 61264, ‘Crab’ 2-6-0 13065 and our own Black 5 4-6-0 45212. Sadly the forth engine, Black 5 45407 did not pass its mainline test run in time to make it for the event.

45212 has departed the Railway back to Bury via our mainline connection and 13065 has left us for the same destination by road. However we are delighted that the B1 is still with us and will be at the head of the steam services this weekend before returning to the North Yorkshire Moors Railway next week, giving everyone another chance to once again ride behind and photograph this superb locomotive.

The diesel passenger service will once again be with the trusty diesel railbus, M79964.

Whilst every effort will made to ensure that the advised motive power is available, the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway reserve the right to change this when operational circumstances so dictate.

Locomotive Roster for Weekend 18th & 19th February 2017

Having been rostered last weekend Taff Vale Railway 0-6-2T no. 85 was, in fact, substituted by BR Standard 4MT 4-6-0 75078 and the ex-Southern Region locomotive will continue this weekend. After being the mainstay of services since the turn of the New Year, 85, a veteran built in 1899, is finally taking a well earned rest.

Locomotive Roster for the Weekend 11th & 12th February 2017 – Correction

Unfortunately the news item sent out earlier was erroneous in more ways than one, for which we humbly apologise. That post should have read as follows (and the date amended to THIS weekend).

Taff Vale Railway 0-6-2T no. 85 should have had the luxury of a day off on Sunday when USATC S160 5820 was due to handle the steam service but 5820 remained on shed and 85 handled the day’s steam service.

The TVR tank will not be getting respite this weekend either and is back this weekend on both Saturday and Sunday.

DRB M79964 which will once again operate the diesel turns throughout the weekend.

The highlight of last weekend was the trial running of a steam hauled (empty) passenger set banked by a further steam locomotive to simulate the operation when ‘Flying Scotsman’ visits in April. Under normal circumstances steam banked passenger services are not permitted and hence the trial. 60103 is a thoroughbred and the lifting of a heavy train, which will include both Pullman coaches, on the steep curve out of Keighley and up Keighley Bank is not what the A3 Pacific was built for. Banking assistance has therefore been given special dispensation to ensure that the days services operate without hitches and delays, should the Pacific need assistance out of Keighley. This adds to the dispensation for the axle loading which is over normal KWVR limits.

Whilst every effort will made to ensure that the advised motive power is available, the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway reserve the right to change this when operational circumstances so dictate.

Taff Vale Railway 0-6-2T no. 85 has been putting in sterling work since the turn of the year and is rostered for its 3rd weekend of operation on the 4 coach service. As predicted snow was around in the Valley last weekend giving the photographers who braved the cold but out in the winter sunshine, the opportunity for some stunning shots.

Taff Vale Railway 0-6-2T no. 85 returned to action on a 4 coach corridor service and it is same again this weekend with a cold snap, possibly snow, expected. Sun, snow and no.85 on 4 coaches would make a wonderful winter scene in the Worth Valley – if the snow and sun appear.

Returning to action after resting whilst the larger locomotives took the strain with the heavy Santa Steam Specials, this weekend will see Taff Vale Railway 0-6-2T no. 85 on a 4 coach corridor steam service.

Also returning to the front after a long rest while the Class 101 operated the diesel services during the Santa Special weekends, is DRB M79964 which will operate the diesel turns throughout the weekend.

Please note that 2017 sees the introduction of a new Blue timetable with passenger services on Sunday commencing ex-Oxenhope at 10.15 and not 09.00 as previously. Unlike the old Blue timetable this will be a steam hauled departure with the Blue diesel service now commencing at 11.00. KWVR steam passenger services, therefore, start earlier than in past years. The Green timetable that operates on Saturday, remains unchanged with the first diesel service departing Oxenhope at 09.00.

Locomotive Roster for the Weekend 19th & 20th November 2016

This weekend is the last weekend before Father Christmas descends on the Valley and takes over all the steam workings until Boxing Day. For this final weekend before the Santa Steam Specials, MR 4F 0-6-0 43924 will be at the head of the steam service with Diesel Railbus M79964 operating on the diesel turns throughout the weekend.

If you are still thinking of booking for a Santa Steam Special, ticket sales are the best we have experienced and as a result there are only seats of two together or just one on its own. So if you want to take a Santa train, call NOW to book one of the remaining places. If you decide to come along during the Santa Season without a booked seat, there will be a diesel railcar service for anyone to still enjoy a journey along the Valley.

Locomotive Roster for the Weekend 12th & 13th November 2016

Having missed its previous call of duty USATC S160 2-8-0 5820 was back in action last weekend with WD 2-8-0 90733 taking over operations this weekend on the steam service with our Diesel Railbus M79964 n the diesel turns.

Locomotive Roster for the Weekend 5th & 6th November 2016

The rostered locomotive for last weekend, S160 2-8-0 no. 5820, unfortunately had not had repairs completed in time to take its turn on passenger duty and BR Standard Class 4MT 4-6-0 75078 filled the breach. Originally rostered for this coming weekend, 75078 will, if repairs are complete on 5820, be rested and the S160 will take the passengers turns in its stead. However if repairs are not completed an alternative locomotive will be rostered.

Locomotive Roster for Weekend 17th & 18th September and Wednesday 21st September 2016

The Civil Gang are busy ripping up Oakworth level crossing and putting it all back together again with a new surface, after years of taking a pounding from traffic up and down Station Road. These 4 images show progress up to Wednesday afternoon.

With the level crossing back in action for the weekend, the Railway returns to the Green and Blue timetables on Saturday and Sunday respectively. Over the 2 days, BR 4MT 75078 will be at the head of the main service being joined on Sunday by Taff Vale Railway 0-6-2T no. 85.

The Class 101 DMU will operate the Saturday morning diesel service but on Sunday, English Electric 0-6-0 D0226 will be at the head of the early morning service.

Mid-week sees the return of the Wednesday diesel railbus service when either the Class 101 will operate or the diesel railbus M79964.

Locomotive Roster for Weekend 9th & 10th April 2016

Last week BR Standard Class 4 4-6-0 75078 was failed with problems with the brick arch and 43924 substituted. With TVR 85 covering the timetable on Thursday and Friday 75078 makes a return for the final weekend of the Easter School holiday.

Stalwart railbus M79964 will, as is the norm at this time of year, travel the line on the Saturday morning diesel service and all day Sunday on the diesel turn.

Correction – Locomotive Roster for Saturday 2nd April

There is an alteration to the steam locomotive rostered for Saturday 2nd April. BR Standard 4MT 4-6-0 75078 will continue throughout the week and will now give way to MR 4F 0-6-0 43924 on Sunday 3rd and not as previously advised, on Saturday 2nd.

Locomotive Roster for Weekend 2nd & 3rd April and all next week to Friday 8th April 2016

Steam hauled passenger services continue every day over the Easter school holiday. Stalwart MR 4F 0-6-0 43924 will be at the head of all steam services from Saturday 2nd through to Wednesday 6th April. Diesel railbus M79964 will operate the diesel service on Saturday and Sunday.

We look forward to photographers being out in force and sending in contributions to mark the event.

Locomotive Roster for Weekend 19th & 20th March 2016

Firstly an apology for the omission of a roster announcement last week, the jungle telegraph was not at its best. USATC S160 2-8-0 5820 was at the head of the steam service and will once again be in action this weekend.

The diesel service will once again see railbus M79964 operating the diesel services.

It will soon be Easter when two steam train services operate on all 4 days of the Easter weekend. Anyone looking for the first timetabled outing for TVR 0-6-2T 85, keep an eye out for the second week of the Easter holiday, more on this in a few weeks time.

Locomotive Roster for Weekend 5th & 6th March 2016

The general consensus for the Winter Steam Gala is that, despite the setbacks with visiting and home fleet locomotives, the crews and staff of the Railway put on a fantastic show with good attendances and loads of happy faces around the line.

The locomotive for this weekend is uncertain depending on the outcome of current work on 2 locomotives. BR 5MT 4-6-0 75078 was withdrawn from the Gala, having failed its boiler test. However the problem has potentially been resolved and if the subsequent boiler test is successful, 75078 will be the train locomotive on Saturday and Sunday.

To add to the mix, the potential replacement, should 75078 require further work, is MR 4F 0-6-0 43924 but this locomotive returned from the Gala requiring some remedial attention which may be completed before the weekend. USATC S160 5820 will be on standby should none of the repairs be completed in time. The situation is fluid and whichever locomotive is rostered on the day the crews will put on a good show for all our visitors.

Once again the diesel service will be in the hands of  diesel railbus M79964.

Whilst every effort will made to ensure that the advised motive power is available, the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway reserve the right to change this when operational circumstances so dictate.
