Locomotive Roster for Weekend 27th & 28th October and midweek service, 30th & 31st October and 1st November 2018

With the forecast of icy winds coming down from the Arctic with the coldest weekend since April anticipated, we know that Winter, and therefore Santa Steam Specials, are only just around the corner. As well as weekend running, some schools are on holiday next week, so once again we are offering steam hauled services Tuesday – Thursday

The weekend timetables are the Green timetable on Saturday and the Winter Blue timetable on Sunday. Our midweek steam service which will operate to the Pink timetable.

The Class 101 diesel multiple unit will start the ball rolling at 09.00 on Saturday and the weekend’s steam service starts from Oxenhope at 11.00 with a 6 coach train hauled by BR Standard 4MT 4-6-0 75078.  75078 and our Class 101 diesel multiple unit will continue with the two train service on Sunday.

The weekday service starts at 10.00 on Tuesday with Ivatt 2-6-2T 41241 operating 4 round trips with 4 coaches including the real ale buffet car.

Work on raising the north end of Haworth platform to the same height as the rest was completed in time for the Beer & Music Festival, so passengers will now be able to alight from trains without facing the large drop to the platform that has existed for far too many years.

Whilst every effort will made to ensure that the advised motive power and coaching stock are available, the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway reserve the right to change this when operational circumstances so dictate.

The weekend’s timetables are once again the Green timetable on Saturday and Blue on Sunday. The midweek diesel railcar service will operate to the Yellow timetable every Wednesday until 17th October. Work continues to increase the height of the north end of Haworth platform, approximately 180ft, so this area is once again out of bounds to visitors and permit holders wishing to access the trackside, from Haworth Station. This restriction will continue until all reconstruction work has been completed.

The weekend’s steam service starting from Oxenhope at 11.00 will be a 5 coach train behind BR Standard 4 4-6-0 75078 with this locomotive continuing on a 4 coach on Sunday. The relief train on Sunday will be hauled by Ivatt 2-6-2T 41241 on the 3 coach suburban set. Once again the Saturday early morning diesel service will be in the hands of our Class 101 diesel multiple unit and this will also operate the 5 round trips on Wednesday.

Whilst every effort will made to ensure that the advised motive power and coaching stock are available, the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway reserve the right to change this when operational circumstances so dictate.

Locomotive Roster for Weekend 1st & 2nd September and weekdays to 7th September 2018

It seems like only a few weeks ago that we were advising everyone of the locomotives for the first weekend of the Summer timetable with daily running and the vintage Haworth – Oxenhope tour bus, and here we are now giving details of the last weekend when the tour bus runs and the last week of steam hauled weekday trains. This summer has not been without its challenges with steam struggling to hold its place at the head of our trains with the searing sun’s rays scorching the lineside grasses and making grass fires a real risk. Thankfully the KWVR faired better than many similar lines and we were able to run most of our trains steam hauled.

For this final week of all week running we will have 4 steam locomotives in operation. The weekend steam service starts with BR Standard 4MT 4-6-0 75078, continuing on from this weeks weekday service. 75078 will haul 4 of the day’s services before handing over to USATC S160 2-8-0 5820 that will be at the head of the last Oxenhope – Keighley – Oxenhope service and, also, that evening’s Haworth Haddock.

5820 continues on Sunday and will be joined by LNWR 0-6-2T ‘Coal tank’ 1054, courtesy of the Bahamas Locomotive Society at Ingrow,  hauling 3 suburban coaches, making an interesting contrast to the corridor coaches behind 5820.

The diesel services on Saturday will be handled by our Class 101 diesel multiple unit.

5820 and 1054 retire on Sunday evening to be replaced by the Railway’s iconic red Ivatt 2-6-2T 41241 hauling 3 BR mark 1 corridor coaches for the last week of every day steam trains.

On Saturday the first train departs Oxenhope (diesel railcar) at 09.00 with steam locomotive trains operating from 11.00 and on Sunday, the first passenger service is steam hauled at 10.15. Weekday services start at 10.00.

In addition the vintage tour bus will be in operation every day.

Advance notice: Due to the start of our annual Civil Week, the Green timetable will be in operation on both Saturday and Sunday, 8th & 9th September.

The diesel service this Saturday will be locomotive hauled with our monthly Diesel & Ale train running throughout Saturday alongside our steam hauled service. For the last week of the Summer timetable, the Orange Timetable operates (Tuesday – Friday) with the first service leaving Oxenhope at 10.00 The Orange Timetable includes the Haworth – Oxenhope tour bus which, on dry days, will be provided by an open top double decker for unrivalled views of the local countryside. Tuesday to Friday passenger services will be hauled by BR, Class 4MT 4-6-0 75078

Whilst every effort will made to ensure that the advised motive power is available, the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway reserve the right to change this when operational circumstances so dictate.

This weekend BR Standard 4MT 4-6-0 75078 will head steam services on both days and will continue throughout the week, completing a 7 day operating stint.

On Sunday there will be an interesting pairing harking back to the last steam hauled services on the branch in BR days. In addition to 75078 on the main service train, it will be joined by Ivatt 2-6-2T 41241 hauling just 3 coaches reminiscent of services in 1950s as depicted here of classmate 41273 on a Keighley – Oxenhope push-pull train standing at Oxenhope ready to return northwards. Locomotive Roster for Weekend 21st & 22nd July and weekdays to 27th July 2018

Firstly, an apology for the non-appearance of the roster for last weekend and the current week. Due to the ongoing fire risk plus outstanding repairs it was not possible to post the roster in advance.

Despite rain in the last week the fire risk continues and our trackside is still tinder dry but, unlike the ‘big’ railway, there is no steam ban on the KWVR and steam passenger services continue.

This weekend BR Standard 4MT 4-6-0 75078 will head steam services on both days and footplate crews being urged to drive steam locomotives sympathetically to the conditions. With a 6 coach train on Saturday and with conditions in mind these trains will be “banked” by English Electric 0-6-0 diesel D0226 ‘Vulcan’.

On Sunday 75078 continues alone on a 5 coach formation and will be joined by Ivatt 2-6-2T 41241 on the our Sunday Vintage Train service. Conditions are still too dry to roster LNWR 0-6-2T 1054 which is less powerful than the Ivatt.

The diesel services on Saturday will be handled by our Class 101 diesel multiple unit.

On Saturday (Green Timetable) the first train departs Oxenhope (diesel railcar) at 09.00 with steam locomotive trains operating from 11.00 and on Sunday (Blue Vintage Train Timetable), the first passenger service is steam hauled at 10.15.

This week sees the introduction of the Orange Timetable (Monday – Friday) with the first service leaving Oxenhope at 10.00 hauled by BR ‘Ivatt Tank’ 2-6-2T 41241, resplendent in  its KWVR / LMS crimson lake re-opening livery, and this locomotive will continue throughout the week. The Orange Timetable hails the introduction of the Haworth – Oxenhope tour bus which, on dry days will be provided by an open top double decker for unrivalled views of the local countryside.

Whilst every effort will made to ensure that the advised motive power is available, the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway reserve the right to change this when operational circumstances so dictate.

Locomotive Roster for Weekend 7th & 8th July and weekdays to 13th July 2018

With the hot weather continuing and our trackside tinder dry, it has been a challenging week for the Railway, but, there is no steam ban on the KWVR and steam passenger services continue, but this weekend with a little help from the rear.

This weekend BR Standard 4MT 4-6-0 75078 will head steam services on both days as footplate crews are urged to drive steam locomotives sympathetically to the conditions. With this in mind these trains will be “banked” by BR Class 20 diesel 20 031.

This pairing continues on Sunday when we will also have the second of our vintage Sundays which this weekend will be headed by MR 4F 0-6-0 43924.

The diesel services on Saturday will be handled by our Class 101 diesel multiple unit.

On Saturday the first train departs Oxenhope (diesel railcar) at 09.00 with steam locomotive trains operating from 11.00 and on Sunday, the first passenger service is steam hauled at 10.15.

Weekday has the Pink timetable in use with the first service leaving Oxenhope at 10.00 and after a successful return at our 50th Anniversary Gala these services will be hauled by BR ‘Ivatt Tank’ 2-6-2T 41241, resplendent in  its KWVR / LMS crimson lake re-opening livery, the first time the ‘Ivatt’ has operated a service train since restoration.

Locomotive Roster for Weekend 19th & 20th May 2018

There are three very special events this weekend. Whilst the nation looks on in awe of the Royal couple and football fans watch the FA Cup final, Haworth will be holding its Haworth 1940s Weekend, arguably one of the best such events in the country.

To cater for the crowds that flock to the Valley for this event, the Railway is running an intensive timetable throughout both days. To ensure punctuality of the service, we will have 3 locomotives operating each day with changeover at Keighley, rather than the usual running round. The line up will be

  • USATC S160 2-8-0 5820
  • MR 4F 0-6-0 43924
  • BR Class 4MT 4-6-0 75078

In addition, the early morning diesel service from Oxenhope will be locomotive hauled stock in the capable hands of Class 20, no. 20 031. With FOUR mainline locomotives in action this weekend is almost a mini-gala.

First trains depart both Oxenhope (diesel hauled) and Keighley (steam hauled) at 08.45 with the last diesel service, the 10.15 from Keighley and then its 100% steam for the rest of the day.

The same timetable operates on Saturday and Sunday this weekend, please click HERE for this weekend’s timetable.

Locomotive Roster for Weekend 7th & 8th April and weekday to 13th April 2018

USATC S160 2-8-0 5820 is scheduled to takes its place at the head of the steam service on Saturday and Sunday. However, with 5820 having had to be withdrawn last weekend for repairs to be carried out, should the work not be concluded in time, 75078 will step into the breach, and its rest will have to wait until Monday.

The Easter half term programme of services continue Monday – Friday when MR 4F 0-6-0 43924 will provide the power on all services during the week.

The diesel services on Saturday and Sunday will be handled by our Class 101 diesel multiple unit, with the diesel railbus retired to the comparative warmth of Haworth Shed.

On Saturday the first train departs Oxenhope (diesel railcar) at 09.00 with steam locomotive trains operating from 11.00 and on Sunday, the first passenger service is steam hauled at 10.15, working a two train service with the diesel multiple unit. Diesel Service Amendment

No sooner had the news item been sent out regarding the diesel service this weekend, than Mission Control (Haworth Station) sent out an amendment that only the Saturday diesel service would now be cancelled and Sunday services will run as per the published Blue timetable with 75078 and M79964.

In addition, on Saturday all steam services on the advertised revised green timetable, will run as a top and tailed formation with steam on the Oxenhope end, 75078, and the class 20 diesel, 20 031, on the Keighley end.

Hopefully, that is now set in stone, unless someone else knows differently! So, brave the cold, just as our volunteers have bravely done, and get out there with your cameras to record this unusual formation, normally only seen when the man in red with the reindeer comes around.

Locomotive Roster for Weekend 3rd & 4th March and Mid-week 7th March 2018

Snow permitting, steam services will run on Saturday and Sunday, this weekend with BR Standard 4MT 4-6-0 75078 on a 4 coach train, including real ale buffet car.

This week’s midweek diesel railcar service was a very welcome sight for locals wanting to travel into Keighley. Despite the snow, as always, our volunteers rose to the occasion and made sure that the service ran as advertised and some used the service as a means of getting about the Valley with other forms of transport struggling. The weekend and mid-week railbus services will once again have railbus M79964 providing the accommodation.

On Saturday the first train departs Oxenhope (diesel railcar) at 09.00 with 75078 operating from 11.00 and on Sunday, the first passenger service is steam hauled at 10.15, working a two train service with the diesel railbus.
