Flying Scotsman on the KWVR

The world’s most famous steam locomotive, ‘Flying Scotsman, has been travelling the country for the last year, drawing thousands of admiring glances having returned to action after a long and protracted overhaul. Now it is time for the people of West Yorkshire to witness this magnificent locomotive.


The locomotive will be on loan courtesy of the National Railway Museum and will join the KWVR fleet for nine days from the 1st April – 9th April 2017.

On the weekends of the 1st & 2nd and 8th & 9th April ‘Scotsman’ will be in steam and on display at RAIL STORY, Ingrow with the opportunity to go on the footplate.

During the week, 3rd – 7th April, the locomotive will be climbing the Valley from Keighley to Oxenhope, giving visitors the chance to ride behind this iconic engine. Travelling behind ‘Flying Scotsman’ will be by advance ticket purchase ONLY.

  1. Is there an axle loading dispensation? Does this mean that other large mainline locos can visit the railway from now on?

    • The Civil Maintenance Department have given their approval on the axle loading in this instance but it is not a blanket dispensation and will only be used in exceptional circumstances.
