Following the decision not to hold a Diesel Gala weekend during 2015, the Railway has been looking at ways to operate our diesel locomotives on duties that may prove attractive to visitors. We already use the diesel locomotives for morning duties on bank holiday weekends, some special events, and on selected Summer Saturdays, but we recognised these short early morning duties weren’t ideal for enthusiasts to attend and enjoy riding behind their favourite locomotives.
We are now pleased to confirm that a diesel locomotive hauled train will operate ALL DAY on the following Saturdays: 11th April, 9th May, 13th June, 11th July and 8th August which will operate in addition to the steam train service. Starting at 09.00 from Oxenhope, the diesel loco hauled train will replace the diesel railcar service and operate 6 round trips of the line, finishing back at Oxenhope at 17.25. A real-ale buffet car will also be provided on these trains*. In addition, normal fares will be charged. An all-day Rover ticket costing only £16 is excellent value for a full day behind your favourite locomotive.
Update – 15th march 2015
In addition it has now been announced that on Sunday 12th April D0226 will haul the 1315, 1445 and 1615 from Oxenhope and 1400, 1530 and 1700 from Keighley. On Sunday 10th May D0226 will haul the 0900, 1015 and 1145 from Oxenhope and 0940, 1100 and 1230 from Keighley.
To help plan your visit we are able, subject to the usual caveat, we can advise now which locomotive is rostered for each day. 25 059 is currently receiving much needed repairs to the bodywork and cab areas, as can be seen in the accompanying photograph, so will not be able to take part on the earlier dates. We are, however, hoping that this loco will be available later in the summer.
37 075 : 11th April, 9th May and 11th July
20 031 : 13th June
25 059 : 8th August (subject to completion of repairs)
The Railway, and the volunteers involved in owning, maintaining and operating the diesel locomotives based here, hope that these dates will be supported by visitors allowing us to plan for more operating dates in the future.
Diesel locomotives will also be used to haul early morning trains on selected bank holidays, special events and summer Saturdays during the year, and details of the rostered locomotives will be available via our website or keep right up to date by subscribing to our news service.
* – The Jubilee Bar Car, however, due to a previously organised private charter, will not be available on the 13th June.
