Civic Appointment for Society Vice-President

We are delighted to announce that Society Vice-President and former Chairman, Graham Mitchell, famous as Mr. Mitchell, the train guard, in The Railway Children, has been selected by his fellow Councillors to be Keighley Town Mayor for the Civic Year 2014-15. The formal Mayoral inauguration will take place on Thursday 15th May. Graham has served as an Elected Member for Oakworth Ward since the formation of Keighley Town Council in 2002 and is, appropriately, the current Chair of the Watch & Transport Committee. This is the second time that the honour of being Mayor has been bestowed on Graham, who was previously Keighley Town Mayor in 2006-07. Mayoral appointments run in the family as Graham’s mother, Mrs. Constance Mitchell, was Town Mayoress.

In addition to his long standing service to the Railway, Graham is also a member of Keighley Bus Museum Trust and General Secretary of the National Association of Road Transport Museums.

The photograph shows Graham with Deddie Davies, the actress who played Mrs. Nell Perks in the Railway Children at a recent lunch in London in honour of respected Albert Perks actor, Bernard Cribbins.
